Let’s know What Is Ionizer Air Purifier?

Ionizers or ionizer air purifiers typically give a negative electrical charge to the air molecules which are generally known as ions. That is how the air molecules or particles are charged. The rule of thumb with ions is they usually attracted by the oppositely charged ions. This is the reason why particles are attracted together and form large and heavy particles which are attracted by nearby air surfaces.

On the other hand, these particles may also be attracted by the other positively charged surfaces such as carpets or curtains. These carpets or curtains usually got their positive charge through static electricity. Now, when it comes to electrostatic air purifiers, they attract particles by using collector plates which are positively charged.

But, if you talk about regular ionizer air purifiers, they come without any kind of collector plate. Hence, the particles end up settling up on the floor. Now, ionizers come in several forms. Some purifiers come without a fan. So, they heavily rely on the air current for carrying particles. These types of ionizer air purifiers are comparatively quiet in operation, but they are quite slow.

On the other hand, some kinds of air purifiers are functional with a fan. Amazingly, you may find some kinds of ionizers that work with other types of air purification technologies. Other technologies include HEPA filter to remove tiny particles from the air and also carbon filter that works for removing VOCs and odors.

Some filters may become charged which in turn can act asa collector plate just as electrostatic air purifiers. Some air purifiers come with the ionizing option, which is optional and you can control it as per your preference.

Safety Tips for Using an Ionizer Air Purifier?

There is no denying the fact that ionizers can give you a freshness and comfortable feeling in your room. However, ionizer air purifiers come with some drawbacks and they are not so effective. On top of that, ionizers produce ozone right in your house which is quite harmful to the environment.

Given that there are many other types of air purifiers available in the market that don’t use ionizing technology, I always recommend avoiding using ionizer air purifiers if possible. Especially, if any of your family members have asthma or other kinds of respiratory problems, you should not use ionizers.

However, if you decide to use ionizers any way in your house, here are some safety tips for you.

  1. You should clean the collector plate of your electrostatic ionizer air purifier at a regular interval.
  2. You must clean the area where the ionizer air purifier is located. You can use a good quality vacuum cleaner that comes with a true HEPA filter.
  3. If you are using a hybrid unit, you should try to turn off the ionizing feature of your air purifier.
  4. You must not use an ionizer air purifier if your room is enclosed and someone is present in your room. In that case, you need to open the windows of your room. The best way is to turn on the ionizer when the room is empty.

Better Air Purifiers:

There is no doubt that with advanced filter technology you’ll find many better air purifiers other than ionizers. When it comes to removing dust, pet hair, mold spores, or pollen from your room’s air, you must go for a HEPA filter. These filters are quite popular for their efficiency and effectiveness.

Now, if you are pissed from gaseous pollutants fumes, odors, or bad smells, a carbon filter could be the better option for you. But, these types of filters need to be replaced regularly and are not capable of giving you relief from particulate pollutants. Luckily, you’ll find filters that come with both HEPA and carbon filters.

Final Words:

Ionizers use modern ionizing technology that can be useful for removing some kinds of dust. But, one of the main drawbacks of the ionizers is they produce ozone which is so much harmful to the environment as a whole. So, what is an ionizer air purifier? I hope, this article has helped you to know the answer to this question.

Considering the harmful effect of using ionizing air purifiers, you should try to go for alternative better options. When you talk about alternative options, both the HEPA filter and carbon filter can give you great user experiences for respective purposes. Moreover, with the blessing of modern technology, now it is possible to get an air purifier that comes with both HEPA and carbon filters.
